A hollow metal body, particularly a cartridge case, is made by securing a closely-fitting tubular sleeve 12, 13 to one end of a main tube 10, both the sleeve and tube being of the same metal, supporting the main tube both on its exterior and interior surfaces from one end 15 and over part of its length to leave the sleeved end unsupported, locating the sleeved end in a surrounding die 18, heating it by electric resistance heating 21, and finally applying axial pressure thereto to deform it into the shape 22 defined by the die. One or more steel sleeves may be secured by spot welding to the interior and/or exterior of a main steel tube and the assembly is then fitted over a mandrel 14 within the die 18. A spring-loaded plunger 20 coupled in an electric heating circuit 21 with the die 18 then pressed on the sleeved end to soften and deform it to the shape 22, Fig. 7.
