<p>Methods and compositions for preventing viral infection are disclosed. Compositions containing papillomavirus VLPs or capsomeres are used, alone or in combination with other agents, as microbicides that substantially block papillomavirus binding receptors on the surface or vicinity of cells in a tissue to be treated with the composition. The invention can be used to inhibit papillomavirus infection or infection by another virus that utilizes the same binding receptors during the infection process.</p> |
