949,567. Heat-insulated pipes. W. A. PLUMMER. May 20, 1960 [May 20, 1959], No. 17986/60. Heading F2P. A heat-insulating jacket 10 for assembly about a duct 14 comprises a tube of flexible material of poor heat conductivity and impervious to moisture, e.g. of rubber, a plastic or treated fabric, and having releasable seamforming means extending from end to end of the tube to permit the jacket to be formed from a continuous roll of material and be readily assembled about the duct, and spacer means 24 which project radially inwardly of the tube to hold at least the portion of the tube intermediate the ends thereof out of contact with the duct to form an annular dead air space 25 thereabout. As shown, the longitudinal edges of the tube are connected by interlocking tongues and grooves and a guard flap 24 holds the jacket spaced from the duct; the ends of the tube are contracted against the duct and taped in place. In modifications, the tube has longitudinal corrugations 35, Fig. 4, or frusto-conical inwardly-extending bosses 39, Fig. 5. A jacket of generally T-shaped configuration may be used at the junction of the duct and a branch pipe and provided with two pairs of interlocking slide fastener tapes. Specification 947,377 is referred to. |
