The purpose of the invention is to detect defective pixels of an imaging element, correct the output pixel values of the defective pixels, and generate an output image. An imaging device has an imaging element and a signal processing unit for analyzing an output signal from the imaging element and detecting a defective pixel. The imaging element receives incident light, for example, through micro-lenses disposed in front of the pixels, inputs an identical subject light on a per-local-region basis, said local region consisting of a plurality of pixels of the imaging element, and obtains an image signal having a resolution lower than the pixel resolution corresponding to the pixel density of the imaging element. The signal processing unit compares the pixel values of the same color pixels included in a local region with each other on a per-local-region basis, said local region consisting of a set of the pixels of the imaging element, detects defective pixels on the basis of the comparison results, and corrects and outputs the pixel values of pixels determined as defective pixels. |
