摘要 The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0888594/IV (b)/1> wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a lower hydrocarbon radical, R1 and R2 are lower alkyl or lower alkoxy radicals, R3 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkoxy or lower alkyl radical the group represented by R3 when other than hydrogen being the same as that represented by R2 and being present in only one of positions 2 and 4 of the phenyl ring (the term 'lower' indicating up to 8 carbon atoms in the radicals so described) and the preparation thereof by reacting together a starting substituted 3-phenoxy-1,2-propanediol or 3-phenoxy-1-halo-2-propanol or 3-phenoxy-2-hydroxy-1-propyl carbamate, wherein the phenoxy group carries substituents desired in the final oxazolidone product, with urea, or in the case of the 5-(31,51-substituted phenoxymethyl-3-substituted-2-oxazolidones, reacting together a starting substituted 3-phenoxy-1-amino-2-propanol, wherein the phenoxy and nitrogen substituent are those desired in the final oxazolidone product, with carbonyl chloride or a dialkyl carbonate in the presence of a basic condensation catalyst. Substituted 3-phenoxy-1-chloro-2-propanols are prepared by condensing an appropriate substituted phenol with epichlorhydrin. Substituted 3-phenoxy-1-amino-2-propanols are prepared by aminating the above 1-chloro compound with an appropriate primary amine, RNH2. Substituted 3-phenoxy-2-hydroxy-1-propyl carbamates are prepared by reacting an appropriate phenoxy-1,2-propanediol with phosgene and reacting the chlorocarbonate with ammonia.
