Provided is a high-yield, high-selectivity method for manufacturing a difluoro compound without generating poorly soluble byproducts. An ester compound represented by formula (1) is reacted with an electrophilic fluorinating agent in the presence of a basic compound but not a metal-compound reactant, thereby fluorinating said ester compound and yielding a difluoro ester compound represented by formula (2).
