PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel polymer having a high glass transition temperature and a method of producing the same, and a plastic optical fiber having sufficient heat resistance.SOLUTION: This invention provides a polymer having a unit represented by the following formula (1), and a plastic optical fiber having a core part that contains the polymer, wherein X-Xare each independently a fluorine atom, a chlorine atom, a bromine atom or a trifluoromethyl group, and the kinds of groups constituting X-Xare at least two.
