The invention relates to a method for detecting a predefined frequency band in a piece of audio content encoded according to pulse code modulation subband coding for which the resulting binary stream does not comprise spectral information. The method comprises the following steps: - determining (E301), by frequency subband of a predefined set of subbands, a signal estimated from the binary stream; - defining (E302), by frequency subband of the predefined set of subbands, unencoded parameters representative of the audio content, from the corresponding estimated signal; - calculating (E303) at least one local criterion from the defined parameters; - deciding (E304) on the presence of a predefined frequency band in at least one subband of the audio content on the basis of the at least one calculated local criterion. The invention also relates to a detection device implementing the described method, to a communication terminal and to a server comprising the detection device.
