Provide are a self-configuration method and device for physical cell ID categories. The method comprises: according to code attribute characteristics of physical cell IDs (PCIs), dividing all the PCIs into &Dgr;L large groups according to a step length &Dgr;L, then dividing the resources of each of the large groups into &Dgr;S small groups according to a step length &Dgr;S, generating a PCI resource list, and identifying each PCI via three sections of address code, wherein the three sections of address code respectively indicate the large group number, the small group number and the intra-group number of the PCI; mapping the PCI resources to new base stations one by one according to categories as follows: each new base station and a heterogeneous node covered thereby corresponding to the resources of one small group of PCIs; &Dgr;S adjacent new base stations forming a base station cluster corresponding to the resources of one large group of PCIs; and allocating the first PCI in the resources of each small group of PCIs to the new base station, and arbitrarily allocating the remaining PCIs in the resources of each small group of PCIs to the heterogeneous node covered by the new base station. The present invention can effectively reduce the mutual interference between cells using the same PCI, and improve the performance when users search the cells. |
