A biopsy device to obtain a tissue sample, such as a breast tissue biopsy sample. A biopsy device includes a biopsy probe having a lateral tissue receiving opening, a cutter translatable relative to the biopsy probe to sever tissue received in the lateral tissue receiving opening, and a 5 vacuum source communicating with a proximal end of the cutter. The biopsy device also includes a storage unit communicating with the proximal end of the cutter to receive tissue samples severed by the cutter, the storage unit rotatable about an axis of rotation of the storage unit, wherein the storage unit comprises a plurality of sample compartments extending radially with respect to the axis of rotation of the storage unit. |
