METHOD OF OPERATING A CATALYTIC STEAM-HYDROCARBON REFORMER

A method of operating a catalytic steam-hydrocarbon reformer wherein the steam flow ratio of the feed is increased or decreased depending upon obtained values of composition-independent properties of one or more process streams and a carbon formation criterion. The composition-independent properties are selected from properties that affect carbon formation on the reforming catalyst, for example, temperature, pressure, and flow rate.
