The method involves detecting (S1) actual course regarding fuel pressure in the fuel system over preset time, according to turning off of the internal combustion engine and during conveying of fuel by a conveying device. The actual course is compared (S2) with target value related to desired course (16). The temperature-related functional condition of component is determined, after stopping the engine based on the increase in the pressure of fuel conveyed by conveying device over preset time. An independent claim is included for motor vehicle.
