<p>In an engine having an intake stroke injection mode for injecting fuel from a fuel injection valve arranged in an intake passage toward a combustion chamber while an intake valve is open, a piston 30 has a protuberance 34 formed on a top surface thereof. The protuberance protrudes upward, extends transversely across the flowing direction of intake air, and is located in a position offset forward with respect to the flowing direction of the intake air. A cavity 32 is formed in the protuberance 34 so as to be located forward with respect to the flowing direction of the intake air, and a spark plug 6 is arranged such that an electrode 6a thereof faces the cavity 32.</p> |
