The present invention relates to a system and a method for monitoring an internal insulation state of a substation in the state of a live wire. The system for monitoring an internal insulation state of a substation comprises a determination unit which determines whether an insulator of the substation is one among air or gas; a ground current measurement unit which measures ground current at a ground unit of the substation in the state of the live wire when the determination unit determines that the insulator of the substation is one among air or gas; a filter unit which performs filtering to extract fault current causing the failure in the ground current; an analysis unit which determines a state grade of the substation based on the measured value of the filtered ground current; and a communication unit which transmits the state grade to an external system to check the state grade remotely.
