A polycarbonate (co)polymer is provided comprising monomeric residues of a dihydric bisphenol acetylene and optionally a dihydric phenol, preferably Bisphenol-A. Said polycarbonate (co)polymer demonstrates significantly improved flammability properties as demonstrated by increased charring and lower heat release under combustion conditions. Further embodiments of the present invention include a method for producing said polycarbonate (co)polymer.
