<p>A solution of dilute sulphuric acid containing one or more salts is degassed by passage through an acid-resistant filter of particulate material and a closely woven cloth, in an apparatus which includes means for allowing gas to escape or be removed. The particulate material may be gravel or glass beads, e.g. 2-4 mm. dia., whilst the filter cloth may be made of P.V.C., polyamide, polyester or polyolefin. According to the invention, a coagulating bath liquid used in the manufacture of regenerated cellulose filaments is degassed after it has been regenerated, filtered and heated. In various embodiments shown in the Figures, the liquid may pass either down or up a vertical column wherein the particulate bed is supported on a perforated plate with the filter cloth either above or below the plate. In a further embodiment, two particulate beds are supported in an inclined tube by two filter cloths.ALSO:Entrained gas, e.g. bubbles of diameter 20-60m , continuously removed from a coagulating bath liquid used in the manufacture of regenerated cellulose filaments by passage of the bath liquid after regeneration, filtering and heating, through an acid-resistant filter of particulate material, preferably gravel or glass beads e.g. of 2-4 mm. diameter, and a closely woven cloth, in an apparatus which includes means for allowing gas to escape or be removed. The filter cloth may be made from polyvinyl chloride, polyamide, polyester or a polyelefin whilst the bath liquid may be passed through a perforated plate before or after passage through the filter. In the apparatus described, a vertical or inclined tube is provided with the bath liquid flowing either up or down the tube. The particulate material is supported on a perforated plate with the cloth either above or below the plate, or the particulate material bed is supported by the cloth alone. A plurality of beds and/or filter cloths may be used.</p> |
