Oil from soft fish roe is recovered by extracting with a solvent, e.g. acetone, and distilling the mixture of acetone, water and oil.ALSO:Soft fish roe is preserved by defatting and dehydrating by treating the roe which may be in strips with a solvent, e.g. acetone, to remove both the water and oil and subsequently removing the roe from the solvent, e.g., by draining. The drained roe is dried by heating preferably in vacuo to a temperature less than 75 DEG C so that the hormonal properties of the roe are not destroyed, and may be crushed and sifted. The removed mixture of acetone, water and oil is distilled, the acetone recovered and the oil separated from the water and recovered. Nucleic acid may be extracted from the preserved fish roe by conventional treatment. |
