[Also in Division B5] In a homogenizing device, contained in a widened portion of the delivery duct 2 of, e.g., an injection or extrusion moulding machine, two streams a and b of a plastics material pass through a series of annular passages 7, 8, 9, 10, a twist of opposite sense being imparted to the material passing through adjacent passages. The individual streams subsequently reunite to form a homogeneous stream. In one embodiment the annular passages are defined between a central torpedo 4 and guide rings 6, the guide rings, and if necessary the torpedo and walls of the duct, being furnished with helical grooves 11, 12 to impart the required twist to the material. In an alternative embodiment the grooves may be replaced by helical blades (see Fig. 3, not shown).
