A camera apparatus and a camera achieving high image quality at reasonable costs such as, for example, applications which impose special demands on the image quality, are described. The camera apparatus comprises an image sensor (102) configured to capture an image (110) having a defect pixel position (112), a defect compensator (104) configured to subject the image to a first defect compensation (50) to obtain a preliminarily compensated image having the defect pixel position (112) interpolated, a data processor (108), and a data transmitter (106) configured to transmit the preliminarily compensated image via compression to the data processor (108), wherein the data processor is configured to perform a second defect compensation (52) onto the transmitted image. |
