A water level control system for a river is provided to increase pressure of a hydraulic cylinder by being disposed between the hydraulic cylinder and a gate that controls the water level. A water level control system for a river comprises a gate(200), a gate holder(210), a hydraulic cylinder(215), a first link member(230), a second link member(231), and a rotary plate(245). The gate is provided to an opened path of a cement block partly blocking the path, so as to control water level of the river. The gate holder is fixed to both sides of the cement block, which forms the opened path. The hydraulic cylinder is axially connected to an upper part of one side of the gate holder, by one end thereof. The first link member is axially connected by one end thereof to another end of the hydraulic cylinder. One end of the second link member is axially connected with another end of the first link, and another end of the second link member to the gate holder. The rotary plate is connected with another end of the first link, axially and fixed to the gate.
