PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress apparent irregularity, and to achieve display with low power consumption and high peak luminance regardless of a video to be displayed.SOLUTION: An image display device includes: a backlight; a modulation part; a calculation part; and a control part. The backlight has a plurality of light sources each of which is able to control emission intensity. The modulation part modulates the rays of light to be emitted from the backlight to display an image in a display region. The calculation part calculates the movement quantity of a video between preceding and following images on the basis of an input video signal. The control part controls the backlight such that the distribution of non-uniform brightness can be obtained in the display region according as the movement quantity is small.
