PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium, whose end surface shape is excellent and recording feasible area is expanded while reducing generation of fine pits (recesses) affecting magnetic recording characteristics.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium includes a polishing step. The polishing step includes: a first polish step of polishing a glass substrate using a polishing pad whose Asker-C hardness is 60 or more and 90 or less; a selection step of selecting the glass substrate based on the plate thickness; and a second polish step of polishing the glass substrate using the polishing pad whose Asker-C hardness is 60 or more and 90 or less. |
