The unit (3) has two direct current (DC)-DC converters (9A, 9B) i.e. variable-frequency converters, interleaved and reversible between an operating mode for lowering voltage and another operating mode for raising voltage. A switch (K) enables a power source (ST1) to supply power to an on-board network when the switch is in one state and enables a power storage unit (ST2) to supply power to the on-board network when the switch is in another state. A synchronization device synchronizes operation of the converters operating at variable frequencies and current generation of the converters.
