Cigarettes are packaged in a continuous strip between opposed sheets (43, 44, Fig. 7, not shown) of material, one or several cigarettes being included between adjacent seals (45). The cigarettes are then packaged in a paperboard box (Fig. 1) with extensions 20, 22 on its side walls which are folded over and interconnected to form a channel to guide the cigarettes past a serrated metallic blade 30 where the required number of cigarettes can be severed. The opposed sheets are preferably of different materials, e.g. transparent plastics material and aluminium foil, with perforations in the seals.</p> |
