PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coloring liquid used for a device using an electrowetting method or an electrofluidic method by which a pigment as coloring agent is added into a nonpolar solvent, excellent in separability from a polar solvent, and to provide a separate-liquid-state coloring composition using the coloring liquid.SOLUTION: The coloring liquid is used for an optical modulation system device which modulates color or brightness by moving or deforming liquid using an external electric field. The coloring liquid contains a nonpolar solvent and a coloring agent. The coloring agent is a modified pigment having a polymer (P) obtained by polymerizing, on a pigment (A) surface, a polymer (B) having a siloxane bond and soluble in a nonaqueous solvent and at lease one kind of polymerizable unsaturated monomer (C) soluble in the nonaqueous solvent and insoluble or hardly soluble after polymerization. The separate-liquid-state coloring composition contains the coloring liquid and a polar solvent that does not mix with the coloring liquid. |
