PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device, a television receiver and a program capable of improving visibility of a character string of a gradation font which is scroll-displayed by an OSD function.SOLUTION: A display device, which scroll-displays a character string of a gradation font having a contour part displayed in gradation stepwise with a character color, a background color and an intermediate color on a screen, includes: an afterimage width calculation unit 42 which calculates an afterimage width of the contour part in a direction opposite to a scroll direction based on a response time necessary for displaying an image on a screen by switching to luminance corresponding to different gradation and a scroll speed of a character string of the gradation font; a determination unit 43 which determines whether the afterimage width calculated by the afterimage calculation unit 42 is equal to or more than character spacing in the character string or not; and a reduction unit 44 which reduces a width of the contour part when the determination unit 43 determines that it is equal to or more than the character spacing.
