PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving autofocus accuracy by adequately detecting an edge from an image.SOLUTION: An edge detection unit 306 detects an edge from image data supplied from an image supply unit 302. The detected edge is transmitted to a width measurement unit 308 to measure and calculate an edge width. The edge width can be calculated by using various techniques including a use of inclination. The calculated edge width is provided to a focus signal generation unit 310 and sharpness of an image is measured on the basis of the edge width. A focus signal 312 is output according to the measured sharpness and focus adjustment is performed. |
