PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve luminance control by a simple method while enabling the extension of the lifetime of a display element.SOLUTION: A display device displays a predetermined image by a field sequential system. A frame has a display period and a non-display period in which a DMD (Digital Micro-mirror Device) is driven, and an image is not displayed. The rate of the display period occupied within the frame is made constant. The display device adjusts driving currents to be supplied to a light source by methods of: gradually changing a duty ratio between first luminance and second luminance and between the second luminance and third luminance as requested luminance under PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) control; gradually decreasing the current value of the driving currents from the first luminance to the second luminance between the first luminance and the second luminance; increasing the current value at the change point of the duty ratio; and gradually decreasing the current value of the driving currents from the second luminance to the third luminance between the second luminance and the third luminance under PAM(Pulse Amplitude Modulation) control. |
