Provided are a cation exchange membrane, said cation exchange membrane not showing such changes in ion exchanging performance as observed in the course of using polyvinyl alcohol-based ion exchange membranes, having excellent basic characteristics, for example, membrane resistance and ion transportation rate and a high membrane strength, and being useful in electrodialysis too, and a method for producing the same. Disclosed are: (1) a cation exchange membrane containing a polyvinyl alcohol-based copolymer (P) that comprises an anionic polymer segment having an anionic group and a vinyl alcohol polymer segment, and having a microphase-separated structure wherein a domain size (X) is within the range of 0<X≤150 nm; and (2) a method for producing the cation exchange membrane, characterized in that the membrane is formed from a polyvinyl alcohol-based copolymer, said polyvinyl alcohol-based copolymer being the aforesaid polyvinyl alcohol-based copolymer (P) containing a salt (C) and the weight ratio [(C)/(P)] of the salt (C) to the polyvinyl alcohol-based copolymer (P) being controlled to 4.5/95.5 or less. |
