1,048,433. Extrusion blow-moulding. R. HAGEN, [trading as KAUTEX-WERKE REINOLD HAGEN]. Feb. 14, 1964 [Feb. 16, 1963], No. 6381/64. Addition to 962,260. Heading B5A. An extrusion-blow moulding apparatus comprises a series of mandrels carried by an endless chain assembly intermittently moved to locate the mandrels successively either singly or in groups at a blowing station where they receive tubular extrudates from an extruder and where air is supplied to the mandrel or mandrels. The endless chain assembly comprises two parallel chains driven through a one-way clutch by a rack-and-pinion mechanism. The extrudate is fed on to the mandrel directly or by a vertically movable gripper mechanism and the mandrels and mould halves are correctly aligned at the blowing station by a fork and abutment mechanism. Racks extend from the mould halves to co-operate with a common gear and so ensure synchronous movement of the mould halves. After blowing the articles are retained on the mandrels and pass successively through cooling stations where air is blown on to the articles and past a mechanical bottom trimming device to a neck-trimming station after which the articles are stripped from the mandrels and transferred to a delivery belt. Additional after-mould treating stations, e.g. for flame treatment, static electricity discharge, lacquering and printing may be provided. |
