摘要 1,098,755. Permanent magnets. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 13, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 15779/65. Heading H1P. [Also in Divisions F2, G1 and H2] A device for producing restoring torque upon rotational displacement from a neutral or zero position comprises a first and a second structure arranged to permit relative rotation, the first structure having opposing pairs of magnetic poles disposed towards the second structure, and the second structure being non-uniform and made of diamagnetic material, e.g. bismuth. The device provides a very weak restoring torque and is applicable to galvanometers or to countering the torque due to solar radiation pressure in a space vehicle. As shown, the stator 44 carries horse shoe magnets 40 having their poles 41 disposed towards a bismuth rotor 34, cast and machined to the shape shown having fluxdiverging " anti-poles ". When the rotor 34 is turned by up to 30 degrees, and the torque released, it will be restored to its stable position shown by the repulsion force occurring between the poles 41 and the diamagnetic anti-poles. Alternatively, a cylindrical bismuth rotor 34 may be provided with holes, the undrilled portions functioning as non-salient " anti-poles ". Fig. 2 (not shown) relates to a device having a range of operation slightly less than 90 degrees and having two horse-shoe magnets mounted on the rotor and an eliptical bismuth stator. Fig. 4 (see Division F2) relates to diamagnetic bearings.
