In a backlight (1), U-shaped discharge tubes (2A and 2B) are connected to a connector (6A) included in a discharge tube lighting circuit (5). A secondary output voltage of a transformer (T1A) is applied to one end of the U-shaped discharge tube (2A) via a power supply electrode (4A). A secondary output voltage of a transformer (T1C) is applied to one end of the U-shaped discharge tube (2B) via a power supply electrode (4D). A secondary output voltage of a transformer (T1B) is applied to the other ends of the U-shaped discharge tubes (2A and 2B) via the power supply electrodes (4B and 4C), respectively. The secondary output voltages of the transformers (T1A and T1C) are the same in polarity, and are opposite to the secondary output voltage of the transformer (T1B) in polarity. |
