A cutting tool comprises a shank 10 recessed at 12, Fig. 2 (not shown), and having a tungsten carbide seating 15, and a fixed abutment 14. A cutting tip 20 is held against abutment 14, by a backing member 32 which is clamped by a clamp 22 having a heel 24 for abutment against a shoulder 16. Member 32 has V-shaped recesses of gradually increasing depth, so that as the size of the tip is reduced by sharpening, member 32 is indexed to bring another recess into engagement with the tip. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), backing member 72 has an eccentric bore 74, and tip 60 is of triangular form. In a further modification clamp 112, Fig. 8 (not shown), has a tungsten carbide chip breaker 113, and is serrated at 114 to co-operate with serrations 115 on shank 100. It is stated that the tool could be a milling cutter. |
