The present invention discloses a separator and an electrochemical device having the same wherein the separator comprises a porous substrate having a plurality of holes; and a porous coating layer being coated at least one surface of the porous substrate and formed with the mixture of a plurality of inorganic particles and binder polymer. The binder polymer is the result of the stiffening reaction of acrylic copolymer and isocyanate-based crosslinking agent. The acrylic copolymer comprises (a) a first monomer unit having tertiary amine group; (b) a second monomer unit having at least one functional group selected between an amine group, an amide group, a cyano group and imide group, other than the tertiary amine group; (c) a third monomer unit composed of (meta)acrylate having a carboxyl group; (d) a fourth monomer unit composed of (meta)acrylate having a hydroxyl group; and (e) a fifth monomer unit composed of (meta)acrylate having a alkyl group having the number of carbons from 1 to 14. |
