PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the accuracy of bringing a detection unit, which detects boundaries between regions of transfer material of a plurality of colors applied on a band-shaped transfer medium used for image formation with transmitting light, close to an image forming unit and positioning the regions on the image forming unit.SOLUTION: In a thermal-transfer printer configured to form a color image using an ink ribbon on which yellow, magenta, cyan, and overcoat are sequentially applied, transmissive ribbon sensors 8A, 8B for detecting the boundaries of such regions on the ink ribbon 4 in which the regions of ink, overcoat, and the like are applied in a transporting direction in a predefined order are arranged upstream of a head 3 in the transporting direction of the ink ribbon 4 so that a transportation path of a recording paper 10 is positioned between the sensors 8A and 8B. As an end 10E of the recording paper 10 passes through the position of the ribbon sensors 8A, 8B before transfer for one color finishes, the boundaries of the regions on the ink ribbon 4 are detected without the ink ribbon 4 and the recording paper 10 overlapping at such position. |
