Improvements in the production of fibrous glass in strand and other forms

Compounds selcted from the class of hydrolysable organo-silicones, their hydrolysis products and their polymerized hydrolysis products are used to facilitate the making of strands from glass fibres, whereby the latter are treated with a composition having both adhesive and lubricating properties and comprising at least two organo-silicon compounds one of which functions as a resin and the other as a lubricant. Of the many examples given, Mono ethyl siloxane polymer and phenylethylpolysiloxane are among the resins and dilauryl dichlorosilicane and phenyl dodecyl dichlorosilicane are among the lubricants. An apparatus similar to that described in Specification 482,085, [Group XXIII], is used for applying the composition. Specification 478,904 also is referred to.
