A tube-shearing device comprises a frame 1 having a tube receiving aperture therein which forms a fixed knife, a movable knife 12 which also has a cutting edge formed by a tube receiving aperture and which is held in contact with the fixed knife by a clamping plate 25, and a guide ring 2 which surrounds the movable knife and which has cams 4, 5, 6 and 7 which co-operate with cams 13, 14, 15 and 16 on the movable knife to produce orbital motion of the knife. The cams 13, 14, 15 and 16 are angularly spaced from each other by 90 degrees, but the angular spacing between the cams 4-5, 5-6 and 6-7 is less than 90 degrees so that the angular space between the cams 7-4 is greater than 90 degrees. In the guide ring are four recesses 8, 9, 10 and 11 which co-operate with the 15, 16, 13 and 14 respectively so that as the guide ring is rotated by a lever 3 to the position 3<SP>1</SP>, shown in dotted lines, the movable knife is displaced radially in several different directions and shears the tube 24. The tube is supported internally by a plug 19 the end face of which is flush with the interface between the fixed knife 1 and the movable knife 12. A further knife 21 is secured to the plug 19 by a bolt 20 which passes through an oversize hole in the knife 21 to allow the knife 21 to move with the tube 24 as it is sheared by the movable knife 12.</p> |
