<p>An existing denture is lined with silicone rubber by a process comprising relining the denture with new acrylic material, applying a room temperature vulcanisable silicone rubber to the new acrylic material and vulvanising the silicone rubber. In one embodiment the process comprises the steps of (1) taking an already existing denture (which is deficient in its gum contacting area) and applying an impression material to the gum-contacting surface thereof (2) taking a reline impression (i.e. new impression of the gum surface) (3) making a stone model of the gum contacting side of the denture by using the denture with the reline in it (4) making a counterpart of the stone model (i.e. a model of the reverse side of the denture to the gum contacting side) by pouring the mould forming material on said reverse side, (5) trimming the top surface of the counterpart and the bottom surface of the model so that they are both level, (6) removing the denture with the impression material (reline) and removing the impression material from the denture, (7) hollowing out the original gum contacting surface of the original denture, (8) applying new acrylic material to the hollowed out portion and allowing this to set, (9) priming the surface of the applied acrylic material and allowing the primer to dry, (10) seating the denture in the counterpart, (11) applying a room-temperature vulcanisable silicone rubber to the primed surface, (12) seating the silicone rubber coated surface on the model and applying pressure to press the counterpart and the model together, (13) fracturing the model when the silicone rubber is cured and recovering the relined denture. Alternatively the procedure can be carried out in a dental flask. The acrylic material is preferably methyl methacrylate and silicone rubbers having a p basis of polydimethylsiloxane polymer with a minor proportion of silica filler and pigment paste may be used.</p> |
