The present invention relates to a timing controller. In particular, the objective of the present invention is to provide a timing controller, a driving method thereof and a flat panel display device. The timing controller is capable of changing input RGB data to input WRGB data, generating conversion WRGB data including data generated by converting one among W, R, G, B data included in the input WRGB data to″0″and location information for the data converted to″0″and transmitting the conversion WRGB data to an external memory. To achieve the objective, the timing controller according to the present invention comprises a reception unit for receiving input RGB data from an external system; a conversion unit for converting the input RGB data to input WRGB data; an alignment unit for converting one among white data (W), red data (R), green data (G) and blue data (B) included in the input WRGB data to″0″to generate conversion WRGB data having the smaller bit number than the total bit number included in the white data (W), the red data (R), the green data (G) and the blue data (B); a control unit for transmitting the conversion WRGB data to an external memory; and a realignment unit for converting the conversion WRGB data transmitted from the external memory to WRGB data corresponding to the input WRGB data and outputting the WRGB data to a source drive IC.
