Provided is a boron nitride powder comprising primary particles of BN that form a flat shape and an aggregate body of the primary particles. By setting the water permeation speed to 1 mm2/s or higher and the oil absorption amount in the range of 100 ml/100 g to 500 ml/100 g, a boron nitride powder for use in cosmetics that is rich in hydrophilic properties and highly oil absorbent is achieved. The boron nitride powder is used to obtain a cosmetic in which the glossiness and transparency (resemblance to bare skin) of the applied product as well as lasting power are greatly improved.
