PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information reproducing system which can be stably used in a long term. SOLUTION: The compressed data of a DVD disk 1 are copied to an HDD 3, and at the time of actual reproduction, the data are read from the HDD 3, decoded by a decoder 4, outputted to a display 5 and an audio system 6 (or an outside display or audio system), and reproduced. Moreover, at the time of reproduction, compressed data are automatically read from the DVD disk 1, and all the data in the compressed state are copied to the HDD 3. The compressed data are subsequently read from the HDD 3, decoded and reproduced. Also, at the time of copying the data from the DVD disk 1 to the HDD 3, the dead capacity of the HDD 3 is detected, and when the dead capacity is not sufficient, a user interface for allowing a user to designate arbitrary data to be deleted from the HDD 3 is started.
