The method involves developing braking torque by a service brake in accordance with delay requirement, determining delay size of the vehicle, and detecting slip rate of the wheel. The determined deceleration is compared with a deceleration value size, and the calculated slip rate is compared with slip threshold. The parking brake is activated when the determined delay size is less than the deceleration value and the determined slip is below the slip threshold. The braking torque is developed when a switch or button is actuated. An independent claim is included for a brake system.
