<p>The method involves increasing hydrocarbon amount in the exhaust gas at a temperature in the transition range. An unconverted hydrocarbon amount in the exhaust gas is determined downstream the to-be monitored exhaust gas after treatment components by a hydrocarbon-sensor. The exhaust gas after treatment components have a temperature-dependent conversion rate for the pollutant-conversion ability in the exhaust gas. A minimum conversion is possible at lower temperature and a maximum conversion is possible at high temperature. The hydrocarbon amount is increased by post-injection of fuel in a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a control- and regulating unit for monitoring a pollutant-conversion ability of a catalytically coated, oxidizing exhaust gas after treatment component of an exhaust system of a combustion engine; and (2) a computer program loadable on a control- and regulating unit for executing the pollutant-conversion ability monitoring method.</p> |
