The present invention provides a method for setting up X2 through a gateway, including: a home base station obtaining an Internet Protocol (IP) address of a neighbor base station through a Transport Network Layer (TNL) address discovery process; the home base station transmitting to an X2 gateway the obtained IP address of the neighbor base station; and the X2 gateway initiating an X2 interface setup process with the neighbor base station, or initiating an eNB configuration update process with the neighbor base station. The method can reduce impact on a macro base station, and reduce complexity of configuration of an operator, so that an X2 handover is practicable.
