PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material discrimination device capable of accurately discriminating a type of a sheet material.SOLUTION: A sheet material discrimination device includes: a humidity conditioning part 12 which adjusts humidity of a sheet material; a first detection part 11 which detects the humidity before and after humidity adjustment when the sheet material discharges or absorbs moisture before and after the humidity adjustment is conducted; and a control part 15 which calculates a first change amount of the humidity before and after the humidity adjustment and discriminates the type of the sheet material on the basis of the calculated first change amount.
