<p>A coated paper product comprises a paper sheet carrying on at least one surface a dried deposit of a coating comprising a finely divided pigment and a binder at least 5% (preferably at least 50%) by weight of which is a water-insoluble salt of a terpolymer of at least 68% (preferably at least 78%) by weight of vinyl acetate, 7-30% (preferably 10-15%) of one or a mixture of C1-4 alkyl acrylates and 2-7% (preferably 2,5-5%) of one or a mixture of mono-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids or anhydrides, the said polymer having a Ti value above 20 DEG C. and up to 35 DEG C. Specified pigments are clays (especially kaolins), CaCO3, blanc fixe, talc, TiO2, coloured lakes and toners, carbon block, graphite, aluminium flake and powder, chrome yellow, molybdate orange, toluidine red and copper phthalocyanines. Other binders which may be present include casein, soya protein, starch, chlorinated starch and starch ethers. The coatings may be applied as aqueous dispersions by conventional methods, e.g. by immersion roll and doctor, gravure roller, brush or spray coating and dried e.g. by heat. The coated product may be printed upon with single and multicolour inks and may be over-coated after printing with wax or lacquer.</p> |
