The device has a patient desk (5) including an aperture to receive a female breast (8). A receiver unit comprises an X-ray emitter (1) and an X-ray detector (2) i.e. flat detector, and is rotated around a rotational axis to be oriented perpendicular to an aperture plane (10) of the patient desk. The receiver unit for creation and detection of X-rays (6) is arranged in direct proximity to the aperture plane such that the X-ray emitter is formed for positioning beside the patient desk and penetrates the aperture plane. An independent claim is also included for a method for receiving X-ray projections.
