<p>A biometric authentication device (10) comprises: a score computation unit (11) which compares biometric data of a person to be authenticated, and data of registrants which are pre-registered, and computes a score which denotes the degree of matching between the two types of data; and arecognition processing unit (12) which determines whether the maximum value of the score is greater than or equal to a first threshold, and, on the result of the determination, if the maximum value is greater than or equal to the first threshold, acknowledges that the registrant for whom the score is maximum and the person to be authenticated match. On the result of the determination, if the maximum value is less than the first threshold, the recognition processing unit (12) identifies a registrant with the next largest score to the registrant for whom the score is at maximum, computes the difference between the score of the identified registrant and the maximum, and, on condition that the difference is greater than or equal to a second threshold, acknowledges that the registrant for whom the score is at maximum and the person to be authenticated match.</p> |
