[Also in Division B5] Material suitable for use in upholstering is formed by passing a sheet of foamed material, e.g. plastics material, having longitudinal rows of slots 2, over a table 3 provided in its upper surfaces with a pair of divergent endless belts 5, the rows of slots being successively opened by frictional engagement with the upper runs of the belts thus causing an overall increase in width of the sheet. By controlling the feeding speed of the sheet and the speed and width of the belts 5 the amount by which the slots are opened, and consequently the increase in overall width of the sheet, may be controlled. Distended sheets thus formed may be laminated to similar distended sheets or undistended sheets. |
