In a split-torque, two-stage reduction gear comprising an input shaft 1, an output shaft 8, and two layshafts 4, 4<SP>1</SP> connected in parallel, each layshaft is in two separate parts 4a, 4b interconnected by an elastic coupling 5 which may be a disengageable clutch, the coupling being in the drive path between a gear-wheel 3 secured on the part 4a and meshing a pinion 2 on the input shaft 1, and a pinion 6 secured on the part 4b and meshing a gear-wheel 7 on the output shaft 8, the couplings 5 being outside the gear housing(s) 9 to isolate them from the gear lubricant and to simplify coupling maintenance. The couplings 5 may include rubber elements, and may be elastic double-cone friction clutches operated by a pressure medium. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the two reduction stages are housed in separate casings (9a, 9b) with the couplings (5) between them. |
